The beginning
Since 2013 every year I have attempted to make tiny drops in the ocean of fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support. This has ranged from doing tough mudder running through fire and swimming in ice to not eating meat for a whole month (very hard for caveman Scott).
2016 was not going to be another individual challenge, not another year of raising a few hundred pounds; this was the year of something epic. Here is where I have a confession to make; I thought I could do this challenge on my own in a day. Now for those that know me, know that maths and I don’t get along very well. I very quickly realised that I would need 400 people to get this Titanic lifted. I called upon everyone I knew who could help and boy did I get an incredible response. Paul and Tania George immediately offered up the use of The Olympic Gym and the network of lifters across the UK to help.

With a little help from your friends
I quickly found that to raise £10,000 you need a lot of help and s
upport, this event was getting bigger than little me and from that point the event became a team. One huge team of all the already 200 people offering donations of time to lift and help out was formed. I needed organisers and my main bros, Sean and Peter stepped up offering 24/7 help creating twitter, Instagram websites and fundraising all across the UK.
Very quickly our story was picked up across the radio, I had a nerve racking interview on BBC Manchester. The newspaper articles came thick and fast with people enthralled by our idea all to raise money for a charity so close to many people’s hearts.

I love lifting, surfing and falling down hills on skateboards, I have daft beard lots of tattoos and love the people who support me throughout this crazy journey of life. The word Hipster is often given to me due to the close resemblance to your Manchester Northern Quarter Hipster type (I’m not though I promise).

Why Macmillan well I have seen first-hand the support for all that Macmillan offer. Help for family and dealing with those practicalities that suffering from cancer can cause. They offer a shoulder for those suffering and empower people to confront their illness and fight it all the way.
My dream for this event
Number one more than anything I want to help hundreds of people raise as much money for Macmillan Cancer Support as possible over £10,000 would be amazing. I want to take part in an event that captures people’s imagination and inspires people to come and fundraise and give to this amazing charity. To meet people and share stories of the great work done by Macmillan and to help spread knowledge and awareness of this terrible illness.
I look forward to meeting you all, lifting side by side and hearing about your journeys to taking part in Raising the titanic. Any questions just fire your captain an email at raisingthetitanic@gmail.com, or give me a shout on any of our social media accounts and I promise I will get right back to you. Thank you and welcome aboard.
